1. Despite the "from the tropics" claim in the title, this comp, unlike the Blue Brazil volumes, features mostly stuff from the catalog of Blue Note US, and it's mostly Brazilian or bossa tracks played by some of the label's greatest artists – a mixture of hard bop and soul jazz tunes, with Brazilian touches to warrant a bit of the bossa in the title!

4. Blue Bossa is another standard that is a favourite at jam sessions. In the video a solo is played, starting with the melody, some variations, and then an improvisation of slowly increasing complexity. Typical scales used: C minor, C Dorian, Db major, G altered, G diminished and of course chromatic parts.

6. This compilation should be titled Blue Latin because it's more of a sampler of various Latin jazz styles than just a bossa nova-jazz mix. In an age of overzealous marketing and grab-bag reissues, though, the oversight is understandable. Thankfully, the misguided approach doesn't dim the quality of this very enjoyable Blue Note release.7/
