3. Jul 23,  · Eddie Floyd's Knock On Wood was released in a different stereo mix after the end of the Atlantic distribution agreement, suggesting Stax retained the session tapes. It is possible that the session tapes for some of the material recorded directly to stereo was sent to Atlantic and lost though.

Like William Bell, Eddie Floyd’s greatest success at Stax was through his songwriting for basically every other artist on the label—he got into the Stax fold via writing for Carla Thomas on Comfort Me—but unlike Bell, Floyd had a genuine hit with the title track to his debut LP, Knock On Wood.
